The photos:

Assignment 1- experiment with depth of field and shutter speed; cover some angle of the NFL season kickoff concerts in Time Square.

Assignment 2- since 9-11 the commuting systems from New Jersey to New York have been drastically altered. Our mission was to capture the story of the ferry business, how crowded it's become, pollution it's caused and effect it has on commuters.

Assignment 3- because an important element to being a freelance photojournalist is covering daily events as they pop up, we were assigned to find an AP daybook story cover the event as if it were for the Metro section of a newspaper.

Assignment 4- another aspect of being a photojournalist is being able to respond to unplanned events. While covering a print story at the United Nations, I noticed protesters and immediately grabbed my camera.

The 9-11 photos:

On the anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, we were assigned to document the day via photography. The day was long for me. I started early in the morning covering a gathering of world religious leaders at St. Bart's Episcopalian Church in Mid-town Manhattan; Kofi Annan was the featured speaker. Then, I headed to Union Square, Ground Zero, and finally ended the day following William Cintron, who lost his wife Edna, through a memorial march in East Harlem.
